What's wrong with traditional plastic packaging?
When plastic manufacturing took off in the early 20th century, plastic was heralded as a miraculous material-lightweight, flexible, economical and sturdy. Plastics are used in almost everything in our daily lives. In 2005, the world consumed 235 billion kilograms of plastics for all uses.
However, we now know that traditional plastics have created many environmental challenges. Plastic packaging such as bottles and bags tossed into a landfill will take hundreds of years to break down. Plastic recycling has lightened some of the environmental burden of disposal, but the majority of plastics are sent to landfills or incinerated after a single use. The US plastic-bottle recycling rate is less than 25 percent, according to the American Plastics Council. Traditional plastics add to landfill volume, hinder landfill compaction and delay the biodegradation of discarded organic materials, thereby fostering the formation of methane, a harmful greenhouse gas.
What is ECOSPACK?
ECOSPACK (Ecological Cosmetic Packaging) is the first step towards a cleaner environment. It is an affordable biodegradable plastic packaging made with an organic based biodegradable additive that accelerates biodegradation rate by several orders of magnitude. The shelf life and service life of ECOSPACK biodegradable plastic products have the same shelf life as regular plastics. It only starts to degrade when it is placed in an active microbial environment, such as a landfill.

How it works?
ECOSPACK biodegradable products use an organic based additive which, when combined in at about 1% by load weight with any of the popular plastic resins, renders the end products biodegradable.
This special additive expands the molecular structure of the plastic, scissoring the polymer chain and adding in nutrients and other organic compounds that weaken the polymer chain for microbial action to colonize in and around the plastic. These microbes then secrete acids that break down the entire polymer chain. The final products of biodegradation are carbon dioxide, water and biomass.
This biodegradation process can take place aerobically and anaerobically. It can take place with or without the presence of light, heat or moisture. These factors allow for biodegradation even in landfill conditions that do not promote any degradation.
